The principles behind CRO can be traced back to the book “Scientific Advertising” by Claude Hopkins, back in 1921!
Back then, the direct mail industry was built on the simple idea that factors such as changing a headline on a sales letter, a picture, the colour of the print, the shape of the envelope and so on, and testing these changes against a control, could lead to incredible increases in response rates and income generated.
