Global IP Traffic Will Grow 3x By 2020 Because of Videos
According to Michelle Clancy from Rapidtvnews.com, by 2020 global IP traffice will triple with video making up the bulk of it.
It is expected that the global Internet community will grow to 4.1 billion by 2020. Its incredible considering it was 3 billion in 2015 but video content has been on the rise in the last few years and it has no intention to stop growing.
Video services -such as household names YouTube, DailyMotion, and even Facebook has ventured into hosting own video services- and content continue to be the untouchable force when compared with all other applications.
Clancy states,”Internet video will account for 79% of global Internet traffic by 2020 — up from 63% in 2015. The world will reach three trillion Internet video minutes per month by 2020, which is five million years of video per month, or about one million video minutes every second. HD and Ultra HD Internet video will make up 82% of Internet video traffic by 2020 — up from 53% in 2015.”
The latest Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) states that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will 22% over the next five years.
Busy-hour Internet traffic will also increase two- fold times faster than average Internet traffic between 2015 to 2020.
